4.1.2 Name, Role, Value
Every control must expose its name, role and state programmatically.
What this means in practice
A screen reader must be able to announce “Menu button, collapsed”. Standard HTML does this by itself; custom controls built from div need role, name and state supplied via ARIA – and kept up to date.
