1. Data Protection at a Glance

The following notes provide a simple overview of what happens to your personal data when you visit this website or use our products. Personal data is any data that can be used to identify you personally.

This website deliberately does without tracking, analytics tools and third-party cookies for marketing purposes. Fonts and content are — with the exception of the services listed below — loaded locally from our own server.

3. Hosting

This website and the associated services are operated on a server of Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany (hereinafter "Hetzner"). The personal data collected on this website is stored on this server. This may primarily include IP addresses, contact requests, meta and communication data, contract data, contact details and website accesses. Details on the processing carried out by Hetzner can be found in the Hetzner privacy policy. A data processing agreement (DPA) pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR has been concluded with Hetzner. Hetzner is used for the purpose of fulfilling our contracts with our potential and existing customers (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and in the interest of a secure, fast and efficient provision of our online offering (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Server Log Files

The provider of these pages automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser transmits automatically: browser type and version, operating system used, referrer URL, host name of the accessing computer, time of the server request, IP address. This data is not merged with other data sources. The data is collected on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the technically error-free presentation and optimisation of the website).

4. Customer Account and Contract Processing

If you create a customer account or take out a subscription, we process the data required for this (name, email address, company and VAT ID where applicable, billing address, licensed domains, contract and payment history) for the performance of the contract pursuant to Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. This data remains with us until the purpose no longer applies; statutory retention periods (in particular under commercial and tax law) remain unaffected.

5. Payment Processing (Stripe)

We use the payment service provider Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd., 1 Grand Canal Street Lower, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin, Ireland) to process payments. When you make a purchase, the data required for the payment (name, email, billing address, payment data) is transmitted directly to Stripe; credit card data is processed exclusively by Stripe and does not reach our servers. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Data may be transferred to the USA in this context; Stripe is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Details can be found in the Stripe privacy policy.

6. AI Features (Wave Access)

The optional AI features of our products (automatic alt texts, Easy Language, read-aloud function) process the content submitted for this purpose (images or texts of your website) via our servers in Germany. Insofar as external AI providers are used as sub-processors to generate the AI results, this is done on the basis of data processing agreements pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR; a current list of the sub-processors used is available on request. No data of website visitors is transmitted in this process — only content provided by the customer. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

The Wave Access widget itself stores website visitors' settings (e.g. the selected contrast mode) exclusively locally in the visitor's browser. No tracking takes place; no visitor data is transmitted to our servers.

7. Contact

If you contact us by email, your enquiry, including all personal data resulting from it, will be stored and processed for the purpose of handling your request. We do not pass on this data without your consent. Processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your enquiry relates to the performance of a contract, and otherwise on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

8. Cookies and Web Fonts

This website does not use cookies for analytics or marketing purposes. Cookies that are technically necessary for the customer area (login session) are set on the basis of Section 25(2) of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG). For display purposes, fonts (Google Fonts) and icons (Font Awesome) are loaded from content delivery networks; in doing so, your IP address is transmitted to the respective CDN operator. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a consistent, high-performance presentation).

9. Your Rights

Within the scope of the applicable statutory provisions, you have the right at any time to:

You may revoke any consent you have given at any time with effect for the future. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. The competent authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (www.ldi.nrw.de).

10. SSL/TLS Encryption

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, this site uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of your browser changes from "http://" to "https://" and by the lock symbol in your browser bar.
